Most trainers set their price by looking at what others charge and picking a number slightly lower. It feels safe, but it ignores the three things that actually decide whether your business works: how much you need to earn, how much time each client takes, and what your offer is worth to the people you coach.
This guide gives you a way to price with numbers instead of nerves: a free calculator, the five pricing models coaches use, sourced price ranges for India, the US and Australia, and a simple plan for raising your rates.
Personal training pricing calculator
Enter what you charge, how many clients you coach and how much time each one takes. The calculator shows your monthly revenue, your real hourly rate, how many clients you can handle and the price you need to hit your target. It works in INR, USD, AUD and CAD.

Step 1: Start from your income target
Decide what you need to earn from coaching each month before tax and business costs. Include rent, living costs, savings and what you want to reinvest in courses, equipment or software. This number is your target, not a wish.
Step 2: Measure your real time per client
Sessions are only part of the work. Add check-in reviews, messages, plan updates, programming and admin. For online coaching especially, the hidden time often exceeds the visible time. Track it honestly for two or three weeks; the calculator's effective hourly rate is only as good as this number.
Step 3: Calculate your minimum price
Your minimum monthly price per client is your income target divided by the number of clients you can serve well. If that number looks too high for your market, you have three levers: serve more clients by saving time with better systems, raise the value of your offer, or change your target market. Lowering the price alone rarely works — it usually means more clients, more hours and burnout.
The five pricing models coaches use
1. Per session
Clients pay for each session, usually in person. Simple to understand, but income rises and falls with cancellations and holidays.
2. Session packages
Clients buy a block of sessions up front — for example 10 or 20 — often at a slightly lower rate per session. Packages improve commitment and cash flow.
3. Monthly online coaching
Clients pay a fixed monthly fee for programming, check-ins and message support. This is the most common model for online coaches because it scales better than session-based work.
4. Tiered packages
Two or three clear tiers — for example self-guided, core coaching and premium one-to-one — let clients choose the level of support they need. Most clients should land in the middle tier.
5. Group and semi-private coaching
Several clients share sessions or a programme at a lower price per person, while you earn more per hour. It works well once you have systems and a community.
| Model | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Per session | New in-person trainers | Income drops with cancellations |
| Session packages | In-person trainers who want commitment | Tracking remaining sessions |
| Monthly online coaching | Online coaches | Unclear inclusions lead to unlimited demands |
| Tiered packages | Coaches with varied clients | Too many tiers confuse buyers |
| Group / semi-private | Coaches with an audience | Needs strong systems and community |
What coaches charge: published ranges by region
Use market ranges as a sense check, not a starting point. These are published estimates, and your niche, city, experience and offer all move the number.
- India: online coaching commonly costs about ₹3,000–₹8,000 per month, with premium coaches charging ₹8,000–₹15,000 or more (YourTrainer).
- United States: in-person personal training typically costs $40–$100 per hour, with a national average around $55 per session; many online programmes cost around $100–$200 per month (NESTA).
- Australia: one-to-one personal training typically costs A$60–A$120 per 60-minute session, and online coaching starts from about A$100–A$300 per month (Sport Coaching Australia).
- Canada: we did not find a reliable published benchmark for online coaching, so compare three to five local coaches in your niche before setting your price.

How to raise your prices
Raising prices is normal as your results and demand grow. A simple approach:
- New clients first. Quote the new price to new enquiries immediately.
- Give existing clients notice. Thirty days is common; explain what has improved in your coaching.
- Add value you can name. A better onboarding, faster replies or progress reports make the increase easy to understand.
- Stop discounting to close. Offer a smaller package instead of a lower price.
If nearly every consultation turns into a paying client, your price may be below what the market will pay.
Taking payments and tracking revenue
However you price, collect payment before a package starts and keep one record of who has paid and when their package ends. Coaches in India commonly take payment by UPI, bank transfer or payment links from providers like Razorpay or Cashfree; coaches elsewhere use card payment providers or bank transfers.
In BrixFit, you create coaching packages and record the payments you receive, so revenue and renewal dates sit next to each client. BrixFit does not collect payments itself — you keep your own payment method. See how packages fit into the rest of your workflow in the fitness coach CRM for India or browse all features.

Frequently asked questions
- How much should I charge for personal training?
- Start from your income target divided by the number of clients you can serve well, then compare with local ranges. As a sense check, published ranges put online coaching in India at about ₹3,000–₹8,000 per month and in-person training in the US at about $40–$100 per hour.
- Should I charge per session or monthly?
- In-person trainers often start per session or with session packages. Online coaches usually charge monthly, because it matches ongoing programming and check-ins and gives steadier income. Many coaches move towards monthly or package pricing as they grow.
- How do I know if my prices are too low?
- Signs include a very high conversion rate on sales calls, a full schedule with low income, and no time for your own business. If your effective hourly rate is below what you would accept from an employer, your price or your time per client needs to change.
- Should online coaching cost less than in-person training?
- Online coaching is often priced lower per month than frequent in-person sessions, because there is no travel or facility cost. But good online coaching still takes real time for programming, check-ins and messages, so price for that time rather than assuming online must be cheap.
- How do I raise prices without losing clients?
- Raise prices for new clients first, give existing clients around 30 days' notice, and explain what has improved in your service. Clients who are getting results are more likely to stay. Avoid repeated discounts, which train clients to wait for a lower price.
- Does BrixFit handle client payments?
- No. BrixFit lets you create coaching packages and record the payments you receive, so you can track revenue and renewals. You collect payments through your own method, such as UPI, bank transfer or a payment link.
